Rock Art Trail

Royal Commission For Al-Ula

The Rock Art Trail is a path that walks you through carvings and inscriptions left thousands of years ago by travelers, pilgrims, and residents alike. Be enthralled by your Rawi (guide) as he weaves tales of travel, trade, offerings, and warnings that now act as an open-air library of preserved languages spoken long ago.
By walking the Rock art trail you'll get to know how these people lived and the legacies that they left behind.
The brief

The Royal Commission for AlUla team approached us to create a visual guide booklet and a signage system for the Rock art trail, which helps visitors have an easy and informative journey while exploring the rock art library.

Inscriptions

We started first extracting the inscriptions from the rocks to create a library of illustrations that we can use in our design.

Rivet binding

To make it easy to visitors to look into the information while moving from one area to another and give them the ability to read the inscription while spotting it on the map, we created the booklet with "Rivet" binding.

Colors

We used pastel colors from AlUla brand guidelines all along with the brown, to reflect the serenity and peacefulness of the place that tributes all the civilizations that passed through.

Photography

The photography style is a mixture of sepia and vibrant warm colors, that shows the history and the beauty of the place at the same time.

Directing you through history

Directions are most credible and attractive when reflecting what they’re directing and leading to. We focused on creating signage that reflect AlUla environment and blend with it while providing all visitors the required guidance and information they need through their journey.
